American Indian History Month Festival began in 2008 with the goal of having Alabama's nine recognized American Indian tribes together under one roof in celebration of American Indian History Month. The Festival has quickly grown into a Southeastern event welcoming recognized tribes from around the Southeastern United States to Dothan, Alabama. Rich in tradition, history, and culture, this event is sure to remain a crowd pleaser with the cultural sensitivity to embrace numerous unique dance styles and talents of American Indian people and the educational continuity to engage the general public. American Indian History Month Festival commits to scheduling non stop, energetic activities throughout the entire event.
As American Indian people, we are a living growing culture with many tribes, many different languages, and diverse arts. As an event, it is our mission to support these cultural aspects through the promotion of authentic American Indian artists, knowledgeable staff, and a genuine respect for those who have come to learn from us as well as from each other.
Avenues and activities making this possible include: gourd dancing, Grand Entry in traditional dress, a host northern and southern drum, traditional powwow dancing, stomp dance, story telling, and living history exhibits presented by individuals from recognized American Indian tribes.
Join us this year for all these great festivities, generous door prizes for the audience, and lots of fun for every event participant.
